Siri (Siyaguna) Fernando, MEng, PEng, FCSCE, CHSC, is a Senior Advisor for SMA Consulting. Prior to this, he served as Utilities Engineering Specialist, Projects Engineering Manager, Engineering Manager, Director and Expansion Program Manager at Drainage Design and Construction (DDC) at the City of Edmonton, managing a portfolio of drainage projects in excess of $100M annually, including major tunneling work and opencut construction in an urban setting. In addition, he has participated in countless constructability, risk, and value analysis sessions, and has extensive experience in subsurface utility design and project management. Siri also developed and implemented risk management, constructability reviews, detailed construction planning methodologies, and project controls to deliver successful projects. Siri’s passion for trenchless technology is demonstrated by the extensive work he has done for the City of Edmonton. Siri’s professional activities include acting as past Regional Vice President for the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers, past Chair of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers of Edmonton and Northern Alberta Section, Member-at-Large for the Tunneling Association of Canada and NASTT Local Chapter and being a sessional instructor at University of Alberta Hole School of Engineering. Siri has coauthored and presented number of papers at conferences and published journal papers in Construction process simulation and tunneling.
