Valley Line Southeast LRT
Project management for an exciting new light rail transit (LRT) expansion
Project overview
Edmonton’s latest projected LRT expansion, the Valley Line Southeast, is the City’s first P3 project and one of the largest transportation projects in its history. Completed in 2023, it will be the City’s first low-floor urban-style train and will run from Mill Woods to downtown.
Challenge
The project represented a huge undertaking for the city of Edmonton. Completed in 2023, the Valley Line Southeast is 13 km long and crosses the North Saskatchewan River to meet the other two LRT Lines (Capital and Metro) at Churchill Station in downtown Edmonton.
Solution
As part of the CTP team, SMA provided project management support services to the City for this challenging project and was involved since preliminary design.
Results
SMA’s work helped the City of Edmonton manage the Valley Line Southeast, including providing detailed project controls, a full picture of all project risks, and many other support services.
