Project management for an exciting new light rail transit (LRT) expansion

Project overview

Edmonton’s latest projected LRT expansion, the Valley Line Southeast, is the City’s first P3 project and one of the largest transportation projects in its history. When complete, it will be the City’s first low-floor urban-style train and will run from Mill Woods to downtown.

Challenge

The project is currently in construction and represents a huge undertaking for the city of Edmonton. When complete, the Valley Line will be 13 km long and will cross the North Saskatchewan River to meet the other two LRT Lines (Capital and Metro) at Churchill Station in downtown Edmonton.

Solution

As part of the CTP team, SMA is providing project management support services to the City for this challenging project and has been involved since preliminary design.

Results

SMA’s work is helping the City of Edmonton manage the Valley Line Southeast, including providing detailed project controls, a full picture of all project risks, and many other support services.
