SMA Receives Three Awards at the 2023 Consulting Engineers of Alberta Showcase Awards

SMA Consulting Ltd. received three awards from the 2023 Consulting Engineers of Alberta Showcase Awards held in Calgary this March: an Award of Excellence—Small Firm, Big Impact, an Award of Merit—Small Firm, Big Impact, and an Award of Merit—Transportation Infrastructure.

The Award of Excellence—Small Firm, Big Impact recognized ASAP: An Advanced Schedule Analysis Platform, SMA’s in-house designed platform, which incorporates advanced visualization with multiple schedule analysis techniques, including forensic schedule analysis, innovative network analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation, and which has been used on projects and programs ranging from $10 million to $1 billion in size to assess impacts, recover from schedule delay, and help ensure success. SMA integrated its extensive scheduling experience, industry best practices, and real-world challenges to develop this comprehensive platform.

The Award of Merit—Small Firm, Big Impact honoured Al-Terra Engineering Ltd. for their work on the Terwillegar Drive, Whitemud Drive to Anthony Henday Drive—Concept Planning for Capacity and Operational Improvements. SMA undertook risk assessment and management on the project as well as facilitating a Value Engineering workshop, which precipitated switching to an expressway, thereby generating savings of about $1 billion for the City of Edmonton. The Award of Merit—Transportation Infrastructure: Roads, interchanges, airports, mass transit recognized DIALOG and Al-Terra Engineering’s work on the Jasper Avenue New Vision project, for which SMA contributed risk assessment and management.
